gears?
i was wondering if the gears out an 04 fx4 with the 5.4l will work in my 99 . i have 3.55 and would like to go with the 3.73 gears that i saw in the classifiedsany info would help.
I don't know if they are compatible or not...
But I don't think the expense of going from 3.55 to 3.73 is worth it. The difference isn't really that great, and I doubt it would be significantly noticeable at all.

Not sure if your truck is also a 5.4...
If not, you'll have to replace the whole axle since the 5.4s have a 9.75" rear end, 4.6/4.2 have the 8.8"
JnotM is correct, you'd feel almost no gain making such a small numeric change in gears.
Of course, the correct setup depends on what you're looking to do with your truck - 4 wheeling, drag racing, rock climbing, better mpg, etc. - and what you're other mods are - tires, engine, etc.
