rear end issues???

I've got a 2000 f-150 v6 4x2 automatic that is producing a rough jerk in all gears (which leads me towards my prayer that it's not the trans). I've got a hair over 80,000 miles and now my buddy is telling me to to do a rear diff service. He worked at ford for a few years so i'm inclined to go with him. But just in case, before I begin what I believe a new level of my education on my truck I wanted the opinion of you wonderful people. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Oh this is my first post on this site, and all I can say is I wish I would found this site years ago when I first got my truck.

Thanks

addendum

Also, if it's agreed I need to service the rearend. What gear lube should I use (ford said 90 weight, but I read 75-140 elsewhere) and do I need motorcraft synthetic or will other fluids be sufficient if not better.

Cool

I asked similar question and got lots of good info.
The thread is "When To Change Diff. Fluid".
Take a look and see if you find your answer.
Good luck.

If you're interested, Mag Hytec makes an aluminum finned cover that also increases the fluid capacity.

hey snappylips

thanks for the heads-up. I took at peak at the diff covers...nicccee. But the trans pan is getting my next check. If that one works out I will absolutely be investing in this company. Anything to keep my baby loving me.

BTW, saw your post to the Shiite talking punk going to the bowtie side...loved it, let that little punk keep paying his lip service. Some of us (I am learning) show in interest in maintaining (key word there) our vehicles so they last longer than rest. Thanks again.

TFL,
Yeah, he's a real genius. Some guys get it (you, for instance), and some don't.

P.S. If you want info on repairs, diagnosing problems or mod's, somebody here has already been there. Utilize the search and you'll spend hours, if not days reading through threads that are loaded with info. Have fun.
