Rear Diff problems

Hey guys and gals, hope you can help. I have a 2000 F150, 2wd. It has 150k miles on it. I have been noticing a problem cornering at very low speeds, usually from a dead stop turning right or left both. I get a vibration form th rear end. I spoke with a service adviser at local dealer, they pulled up a TSB stating "chattering", from rear end when cornering, due to Locking clutch in Diff seals being nutted down too tight. Has anyone had similar problems?? What was the fix?? Get a rebuilt pumkin and have someone put it in for me??

before you spend a lot of money, go to the dealer and purchase some friction modifier and add it to the rear axle. The fill point is just above the driveshaft on the driver's side of the shaft. A 3/8 ratchet will remove the plug. Should work for a right good while and costs a lot less than an axle assembly.

I had a remotely similar problem, but it was more pronounced than a bit of chattering. I took off the rear cover and found the differential case split in two.

Got a used axle for $400 from a junkyard... Junkyard man said they seem to go through a lot.

Thumbs up frictions modifier

yeah i put a ford limited slip into my 8.8 in...and it did have that exact problem..the friction modifier that you get FROM THE DEALER..is the best..green..and doesnt smell good!..haha..anyway..and in a little bit it should slowly start going away..but it wouldnt hurt to change the fluid while your at it..and since you have to take the cover off...just inspect to see if there is a cracked carrier or whatnot..so yeah...good luck

This is amazing to find info on a problem I am having also with my LS. 97 f250 LDuty. I noticed chattering from rear when turning. We added the friction additive fluid, and it went away.Great. But, the first snowstorm we had, I took it out of four wheel going into my driveway. My right wheel started to spin, and the left did nothing. Then i went to a parking lot to see if the LS was working. The left wheel did kick in, but when i hit dry ground on the left side, it stopped and made noises like clicking. I didn't know about the clutch paks and how everything worked untill my friend and I took the rear cover off. He showed me where and what they are. So I guess I need new paks yes??

My 2000 started chattering on the corners. I replaced the rear fluid and added one bottle of modifier. Still chattered. Added another bottle and fixed the problem. That was about 20k miles ago and still works great.
