No

Mark no no no im not just getting the guys stroked up, im serious, you do look bad when ur driving ur 4x4 slow on snow covered roads, my problem is 4x4 spoils me, i think it makes me a worse driver on the snow, when ur driving a 2 wheel drive on snow covered roads, its like ur learning how to drive all over again. My point is when ur in a 4x4 full size truck, ur expected to drive without any problem in the snow. I have seen many people pass me when i was driving the speed limit on bad roads, to me thats embarressing. Sometimes during a bad winter storm, someone will call me and want me to drive, here, or there, even if i don't wanta go out, i have too, only because i own a 4x4, if i would say "oh gee, I don't wanta go out and drive in all that snow" they would call me a chicken chit. Ur reputation is important, and it can be ruined, and you will never get it back, women have no respect for men that are chicken chits.

I "Waste" enough of my time on this web site reading useful information as it is, I don't want to use up that time reading comments like those made by MotoF150.

Sorry MotoF150 but you kept insisting, your views (and you are entitled to them) are way way outta whack with mine.

4x4

You guys still don't get it. When you own a 4x4 You are expected to be fearless driving thru unplowed roads, thru bad snow storms, and if you refuse to do so, ur reputation is ruined, and you will never get it back. Where I work I used to work with a guy that owned a 4x4 full size truck, and he lived 3 miles away from work, but everytime we would get a snow storm, he would call into work and say 'he can't make it cause the roads are bad" and we had other guys that worked there, like me, that lived 30 miles away, over the mountains that made it to work in a 2 wheel drive car. So when that guy with the 4x4 came into work the next day, we would laugh, point, and make fun of him, cause he couldnt make it, and i would tell him I made it in a little 2 wheel drive car. That guy looked bad, u have to agree. Even the boss would bring him and me in the office, and tell this guy, "MotoF150 made it to work in the snow without 4x4 and he lives far away, and he had to drive up and down a mountain, and the mountain recieved twice as much snow. I stood there with my head raised high, and a grin on my face. That guy don't work here anymore, I think you can figure out why.

Look...Your boss didn't fire the guy because he was to afraid to drive his 4wd truck into work that day. He fired the guy because he wasn't dedicated to his job. The type of work he produced probably showed his lack of dedication as well. Furthermore, the guy didn't come in because he was scared to drive his 4wd, he simply didn't want to come to work (lack of dedication) and used the snow storm as an excuse! It's that simple.

I was in a similiar situation when I lived in MT. I was in the USAF and had bought a house about 20 miles from base. I am still trying to figure out why I did that. Anyway....I would have to get up pretty early, because I had to be at work at 6AM. In the winter time that usually meant I was the first or second person to cut a trail into town that day. I drove that road everyday for about a year in my little Dodge D-50 4X4, and it was fun. It was really secluded and not many people out at that time in the morning so....sometimes I would play around a little bit. That little truck would surprise the heck out of you where it would go.

I am all for having fun and showing out in your 4X4, but I think you have to have some consideration for the other people on the roads. If you go out some where secluded and wanted tear up jack, then I would be right there with ya. But out on public roads in bad weather is not a time to take chances. There are too many people out there that are just trying to make it home and dont want anything to do with you being a jackass.

If I have a bad reputation for driving safely and being respectful of other persons lives while on public roads...then I can live with that. I can't live with wipping out a minivan full of kids because I was trying to go faster than I should have been. Now if you wanna take it out on the trails...BRING IT!!!!

4x4

Dear kbldawg Im an assistant manager where I work, it took me 9 years to move up to that position. The only way to advance at ur job is to make everybody else look bad, and that makes you look good, take no prisioners. I made sure I made it to work, no matter what the weather, and the other guys didnt, when they look bad, that makes me look good. Maybe I am a suk up, but good jobs are rare around here, unemployment in this area runs 16%, and I will do anything to hold onto my job.

From your example about the guy who lived only 3 miles from work. I can understand the ribbing he got. (Though my Girl Friend has a 4x4 and won't drive in bad weather either, then she had a sever accident and near fatal injurys, in a snow storm several years ago. So I can more than understand why some people will error on the side of caution.)

But that still doesn't explain stupid or dangerous driving by anyone else.

I do realize that I'm in the minority here but, I'm the guy that everyone hates that is actually driving the posted speed limit - most of the time anyway - and slowing when conditions warrant it.

I'm also the guy out there clearing snow so you and everyone else can get around.

So next time you pass or get stuck behind me or someone like me, you just remember that you are not paying my insurance, Traffic Tickets or Depending on a Drivers License for a Livelihood.

Doug

4x4

im sorry if i made anybody mad, the only point i was making is when you own a 4x4 ur expected to drive anywhere when the roads are bad, and i was thinking most people would agree with me, i was surprized nobody did. Im the only one in my family that owns a 4x4, and everytime we have a snowstorm they call me when they need to go somewhere.

You didn't make me mad. Don't worry about it!

I understand what you are saying, and I suppose I agree with it. I think most people expect a 4WD vehicle to be capable of taking on most road conditions.

I think what bothered me was the way you described your driving style in and around other motorist. I felt that it was careless, dangerous, and to be totally honest, imature. The reasoning for it didn't help much either.

I have never been one to let the worst weather keep me from going where I wanted to go, but I have always tried to exercise some respect and consideration for other motorist.

To each their own, and I mean no disrespect to you either!! Be careful out there!!!!!!

4x4

yea the driving style, you mean driving too fast when the roads are bad after a snowstorm. I only drive faster than everybody else cause I own a 4x4, when the weather is nice I drive the speed limit like everybody else, im just afraid if someone I know see's me driving slow when the roads are bad they will make fun of me, and say that im afraid

Talking

Ha ha LOL , I drive just like you Moto. It kills me when the weathermen tell people "slow down the roads are slippery" Cripes people drive way to slow to begin with when there's a dusting on the road much less being prodded to drive slower....

My best pass ever I was passing a semi on the shoulder of the freeway at 45mph, Dipchit was driving down the center so no one would pass him, boy was he pissed LOL I was pulling a snowmobile trailer and the snow was probably a foot deep, truck was almost on the floor, My brother calls me on the CB (he was following) he said is that trailer pulling hard, Why I asked, there was so much snow piled against the front of the tires and axle the tires weren't even turning they were just sliding down the road...... Ha Ha aaa

I just had to add to this again.

Living in NW Wisconsin I've seen my share of bad roads and weather.

I also know from what I've seen in the ditch or heading that way what the idiots are driving.

I hate to say this MotoF150 but, from what you say, I'm sure you'll end up there in time.

Case in point, I've had 4x4s fly by, to only watch them spin out, in front of me.

And Last year after a rather bad ice/snow storm and on a 30 stretch of interstate I counted 10 vehicles in the ditch. Six of those on thier roof and of those 5 were 4x4s.

Over Confidence = Driving too Fast = Getting into & Causing Trouble

That's just my 2 cents worth,

Doug

4wd in bad weather just means youll get that much farther in when you hit the ditch! UNLESS your driving it responsibly. i live up in northern mn and trust me i kno winter driving. with 2wd and cars some accidents are just purely unavoidable this is why they partly made 4wd to help you stay safer in dangerous condition NOT so that you can do speed limit flying by others when theres over 6 inches on the road. Granted yes i have 33's on my 4wd and i do go faster then others but when i am around other cars i slow it down for their safty and mine. you dont know if they will slide in your lane or you will slide in yours. i have done basically EVERY winter driving thing to be done because my dad is a police officer and i have set up and helped trained the winter driving school offered as an optional class to local law enforcement. Granted the 4wd versus the 2wd crown vcs with sand bags hook up way better and corner way better on basically every type or terrien, but once you go over a certain speed its just as easy to slide the 4wd expi and 05 f-150 that they use. I guess if you want to drive faster then you should on bad conditions its totally up to you, but just remember there are other drivers on the road and you should pay respect to them at at least slow way down while behind/passing/or right in front of them for their safty.
