Rear and Front Differential Problems

I recently had my front and rear differential fluids changes on my 1997 F150 4x4 and experienced the following problems:

The rear differential has limited slip and calls for synthetic oil. The shop put in regular gear oil, which I found out later. The limited slip stopped working after it tried to engage the clutches. I heard a slight shutter/grinding sound. I took it back to the shop and they put in the synthetic oil and it is still not working. Is it possible the wrong oil caused this problem? Also what would need to be done to get the limited slip working again?

The front differential does not call for synthetic oil in the owners manual and the shop put in the correct weight of standard oil. After about 2,000 miles or so I started to hear a humming type of noise in the front. I assumed that if the oil is supposed to by synthetic that if I change it the noise may go away? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
