Gears

I know a lot of people asked this but i have another part to most of them. I have a 3inch body lift and 35x12.50x17 Dunlop Mud Rovers and i have the stock 3.55 limited slip and was wondering what gears to go to. I was thinking 4.10 from other posts because i do some towing but just quads up north every now and then does this seem good? Also the main part how hard is it to change the gears yourself ive never worked on a rear end but my dad used to work on old cars back in the 70's and knows alot. Is it worth it to try it myself or just have a shop put them in any help would be appreciated.

4.10 is a good choise it will put you at about stock give or take 100 rpm, doing it yourself aint that hard if you have the right tools, you will need a bearing press to take off and put on the new bearings on your cariar and the pinion, you will need a backlash measuring tool and a micromiter to do the job right and you will need pacents, it might take you a few times to get a good heel and toe marking on the ring gear but is not that hard

it takes me about an hour or two depending on how many times i have to pull it out to put shims in, it being your first time take it slow expect like 4 hours an each axle if you are 4x4, it is pretty easy get a manual and it will explain it also your new ring and pinion should come with instructions and a picture showing you the correct marking for the heel and toe on the ring gear, if you have all the tools it is not all that dificult, good luck

you will need the ring and pinion around 180$ and a master install kit if you want to change out all your bearings and races it is a good idea to do this if you got some miles on the truck, if you have low miles you might only need the pinion bearing and reus the carier bearings, the master install kit comes with all you need to totally rebuild the axle, it will cost around 100$ total cost around 300$ per axle maybe less if you can get a good deal on a whole kit that comes with it all, good luck
