rear end fluid removal....is suction ok?

I have limited slip and when I cornered the inside rear wheel seemed to hop. I thought this was because of the limited slip. I read a thread here that indicated that my rear end fluid should be changed. I went to my local lube place to get it done. They used suction to remove the fluid. The guy said that it was just as good as removing the cover. The fluid change stopped the hopping but I'm not sure that suction was the best method of removing the fluid. Should I have taken it somewhere else that would have taken the cover off and should I still get it done with the cover off?

The reason I like to remove the cover is that you're assured that you have all the fluid out of the diff so you're not polluting the new oil with old. Also its a good idea at that point to do a visual inspection of all the gears and clutchs at that point. I wouldn't say that suction is the wrong way to do it, but its not the best thing idea out there.

I totally agree with powerstroke73, but you are much better off now because suction is better than nothing. Suctioning also makes it difficult to remove all of the old lube.

You have a limited slip diff, did the guys at your shop remember to put in the friction modifier lube that your diff. requires when you change the fluid?

Thanks for responding to my question guys. It's a real help to be able to tap into your knowledge. They did put in a Ford additive that cost $10.00 Canadian. Would I have caused any damage to the rear differential by not changing the fluid on time? The hopping went on for about 3-4 months. Should I get the rear done again soon? Does the front diff. have to be done as often as the rear (4X4)? Thanks again.
