Swap to 4.10 info needed
Hey i have a 97 F-150 im contemplating switching my gear out to a 4.10 im pretty sure i have 3.55 right now i just want others opinions on it before. I would like to know advantages disads price range good places to purchase this and if anyone has experianced any problems after or during the switch. Thanks it would be very helpful.
Fordaddict,
What size rear end do you have? 8.8" or 9.75"?
I can only answer for the 8.8". I made that exact switch and can say that it was definately worth it. If you have the 8.8" then my opinion, and this is only my opinion, is that the gear sets from Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) are one of the best options. They are made to the same dimensional specs as the factory sets and are therefore easier to setup if you are doing the work yourself. Serveral shops in my area recommended them to me because they tend to be much quieter, or silent, compared to many of the other aftermarket sets. The price runs anywhere form 130.00 to 200.00 depending on where you buy. They are available at most mustang parts suppliers.

I did the install myself and have not had any issues since. Lost about 1mpg overall. Also going from 3.55 to 4.10 and retaining the stock 30" tires you will need to replace the VSS gear with an aftermarket 23 tooth gear to recalibrate your speedometer (easy on a 97). also available at the above site or many other similar sites. If you have the 9.75" rear then FRPP gear sets are not available and aftermarket or Ford factory(expensive) sets are your options.

I switched to 4.56 in my 98.I have Yukon gear's in the back and Precision in the front. The front is a reverse rotation 8.8 so remember to buy the right gear's.I haven't had any problem's with the gear's.I rebuild alot of axle's and I've used all the brand's when it come's to gear set's and I haven't really had problem's with any of them.My preferance thuogh is Strange gear's.
