4wd shifting

Every now and then I try to cycle my 4wd to help keep things working. I don't know if it's my imagination but after doing it today, the truck didn't quite feel like it was out of 4 hi. Almost as though the front end was dragging but not fully in 4 hi. Took it out on the highway and it seemed as though the rpms went higher than usual before downshifting but the rpms were normal when in overdrive at 55/60mph. If I engage 4 hi and make a turn, I can definitely feel the front grabbing; which it doesn't do when turning in 2wd. It's just that things don't seem quite the same when traveling straight. Any thoughts??? Am I nuts???

I have the same on mine. I drive back
roads to work and in the winter if I am in
FWD I usually don't need it when I hit the
main road so I disengage but it still feels
like the front is dragging, after I stop
completly it seems OK. I figured it had
to do with centrifical force keeping
things engaged on the rotating axle.

Thanks for the response. The next time I drove the truck (just in 2wd only) everything seemed to roll normally. Someday I may consider putting on the cable system that Posi-lock has developed so I can know for sure when the system is engaged/disengaged.

What kind of hubs do you have? On my 95 Scab I have auto hubs and the floor shifter. Once you engage 4wd it will keep the hubs locked until you back up several feet, regardless of moving the lever out of 4wd back to 2wd. Your manual should fully explain if your vehicle works that way.

I have a '97 F150 4x4 4.6. I experience the same feeling after dissengaging the 4x4 to 2H. I allways go in reverse just in case and all is well. Not sure why the truck feels that way though.
