Question 95 F-150 Stock auto to Warn manual hub conversion

Hi, I've never done any 4x4 work, but I have a 95 1/2 ton 5.0 F-150 scheduled for this Saturday that his Ford automatic hubs are shot and wants Warn manual hubs on. He has the 3 cap screw type hub, so he needs the conversion kit. Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to do the conversion? I've never been inside a hub so it will be new territory on my part... can anyone help???

Hi Matt! I will be doing the same exact procedure on a 89. you might check www.ford-trucks.com. They have several people there, who like us, have done this procedure. Good luck

I also have a 95 F150 4x4 with blown auto hubs. What is the 3 cap screw type hub and what is the conversion kit for?

I'll be doing a conversion soon myself. Sorry I can't offer any advice yet. Post your results/advice when you finish the job.

Regarding the conversion kit, the following is from Warn's website:

"With the automatic hub's cam assembly removed from the axle spindle, the wheel bearing retainer's lock key ring is free to fall out. This will allow the wheel bearing retainer to back off, causing damage to both the wheel hub and bearings. (Note) Automatic to manual hub conversion kits for these vehicles are a safety issue and must not be ignored!"

Cool

I ahve done the conversion on a '96 Powestroke without the conversion kit. In that conversion kit there was a larger spanner nut to replace the stock one along with some shims. Once I found out how much it was, plus the guy I bought the parts through said you didn't need to put it on, I sent it back, but I did install the hubs. I've used the truck two winters and one spring on the farm without any trouble! It sure beat having Ford fix the auto's for $500.00!!

Thumbs up

I just finished the conversion this weekend. The instructions that come with the kit make the job very easy. I can see why Warn requires the conversion kit. Without it, the bearing retainer nut could easily back off, creating the potential for significant damage to the wheel.
