Automatic 4x4 Do I need to put it in reverse?

I've got a 98 F150 4x4 with automatic hubs. My question is after I run the 4 wheel drive and shift back to 2 high, do I need to put it in reverse and back up to unlock the hubs. If so how far?

Thanks.

I have a '97 F150 4x4 Offroad. When I bought the truck back in late '96, the Sales rep told me Yes you should put the truck in reverse after getting out of the 4WD. If not the truck feels as if the 4WD is still engaged. I usally only go in reverse about three to four seconds, then back to drive and its good to go in 2H.

I had a 98 and an 01. Neither did I have to put in reverse to get out of 4wd. Also it does not have hubs. At the wheel it has CV joints that are always turning. The locking/unlocking is done at the front differential.

same truck here, 03a3. you really don't even need to stop. just don't be going faster than what the manual says you can go (55 or 58 MPH, i think).
