Power steering leak
Help,
was wondering if anyone else has ever had a small leak from the fitting on the lowest hose to the power steering pump? The nut on the flaired part of the hose appears to be tight, but the metal flaired tube portion of the hose has a very small amount of play, you can slightly jiggle the hose. I don't have a crowfoot wrench to try to tighten it, but might have to get one just to try to avoid the fun line at my Ford dealer. Would this be covered under warranty anyway?
This is a spoiled baby of a truck, 1998 XLT, 5.4L, 4x2, 3.55 open differential, Supercab. Never sees hard duty, or off road use. It does'nt know what gravel is, at least for now.
Kraig,
If your warranty hasen't expired it most certainly is covered. Nothing should leak.

Sorry, but I just read your post. I have the same leak, went to dealer, nut is tight, dealer says hose is designed to move like that and you will have some leakage. I plan another trip to the dealer when I have a few more items to keep them busy.

I also have an '88 ranger and mine leaked there too I removed the steel line and there is a small "O" ring on the fitting, just replace the "O" ring

If the power steering has any leak at all and you are within your 3/36 warranty then
it is covered by your warranty. The power
steering line at the pump on 4.6 and 5.4 engines is designed to move in it's fitting but should not leak. I'm in Washington and am a ford tech to bad your not closer, I'd fix it. Whatever dealer told you it was supposed to leak, is full of it. Take it back to them and have them replace the hose.
