diff question
diff question
Ok, so i have a 4.2 4x2. it has an open diff...found this out in ice and in a ditch. it has 3.55 gears factory. i want to put an 8.8 diff in it with the factory gears or even 3.73s with a ffps 8.8 trac loc diff. is this the right way to go? i will be towing a car with it, but also want to have the traction for weather.

Hello schizcat,
You already have a 8.8 rear axle, with stock size tires the 3.55 gears should be fine. I would recommend putting in an aftermarket limited slip differential. The one I like is made by Auburn Gear, I put one one my 97 2wd that came with an open differential and it worked great.
