Question hub removal

Help!

I must be dense or something, but I just can't figure this out, and the Hayes manual is too helpful in this case.
I'm trying to replace a U-joint on my front left axle on my '93 F150 4x4. I've managed to get as far as removing the wheel bearing from the spindle and I get stuck. I have the "special" spanner for the job but all that seems to happen is the lockout washer just spins around. Am I supposed to just turn it so far to release it or do I keep turning it to it comes off the spindle?

The hub nut is threaded all the way onto the spindle. Keep spinning it. My Ranger spindle has quite a few threads on it so it takes a little while to get it off.
