drivetrain

my 2000 F150 4x4 with 24000 miles is experencing a clunking noise at take off. since it was still under warrenty,I took it back to the dealer.they replaced the rear driveshaft yoke & u joint. after a couple of days of driving it still clunked. so I took it back again, they supposedly replaced the same parts as before, and it still clunks.it almost sounds like the rear brakes are sticking.so I called the dealer back &talked to mechanic, he said it was a common problem with these long wheelbase trucks.is anyone else having similar problems. thanks Bill Ducharme

Bill,

They could well be sticking. The Disk is a combo disk drum hat type of rotor. The drum is for the parking brake. The shoes get stuck because the system lets in too much crud and corrodes the adjustor. I use my parking brake all the time but after a run in the mud I have to take it apart and cleat it out. Pull one off and have a look at it.

Regards

Pull the driveshaft from the t-case. Grease up the slip yoke real well and reinstall. It should help for a short time (few days). If it does then that's your cause. Then if it is I wouldn't worry about it.

i agree, the slip-yoke needs to be greased. it worked for me, and i put up with the clunking for about 20,000 miles. simple and easy.

Just follow the driveshaft up to where it slides into the transfer case or tranny. This is the slip yoke.
