Question LS rear end

98 F150 5.4 3.LS rearend. Changed the fluid and added the friction modifier. Still get the slip/clunk while taking off from a stop. How much is involved in rebuilding the clutches and how much do the parts run? Only 106,000 miles and only minor annoying troubles so far.

Thanks in advance guy/gals

What makes you think it's the LS clutches? Sounds to me like the slip yoke needs to be lubed. This is a fairly common problem.

When the clutches go on these, they pretty much work like open rears. One wheel will spin without transferring torque to the other wheel. They are usually quiet though.

If it is the clutches, you will need $100 for the clutch pack (online), a decent shop manual, better than average supply of tools, and it will help having access to someone who has dealt with a few LS rears before. JMHO from changing the clutches on my '97 Dana 3.73 last year.

And make REAL sure which rear end you have, from which manufacturer. Not all parts counters know the difference.
