VibrationI

I have a 1997 F150 4x4 Off Road Truck. In 2wheel drive when I turn left or right from a stop I get a vibration. It doesn't seem to do it if I go straight.

Did you put some larger tires on? Stupid question, but if they are too "tall" they will rub the wheel wells on sharp turns. Of course your wells could be jammed full of ice/snow/mud which would cause the same problem.

Do you have a Limited slip? Maybe it is dying and needs to be rebuilt or replaced

The vibration only lasts for a few seconds and doesn't always do it. I drove it around in 4 wheel hi for 2 days and it hasn't done it. Seems like does it more when truck is warmed up.

Vibration Issue

I bought my 2001 f150 supercrew 4x4 3 weeks ago and i have the same issue when you turn right or left from a stop that it vibrates for a short time about a second or so. I've been a mechanic gor 13 years and have not experienced this problem, I think it might be limited slip clutch pack, because i have experienced driveshaft problems and it doesn.t mach this criteria. Thanks Howie

I drove the truck around alot the other day to warmit up[it's cold up here]. Turning left or right from a stop it makes the vibration but not going straight ahead. It is coming from the rear end the axle says H9 on the tag in the door way.

I am experiencing similar vibrations turning from a stop. i rode w/ a technician from the dealership, he said it was most likely the limited slip differential. he recommended a fluid flush with an additive to see if that takes care of wear. if that doesn't work, then he said it needs a rebuild.

so after driving about 500 miles this weekend, the additive seems to have worked a good bit. it still vibrates occassionally, but as severly. i still think it will need a rebuild, this just puts it off for awhile.

Changed the rearend oil used 75w140 synthetic oil and additive about a week ago seems to have done the trick.
