4x4 shift on the fly

This is my first electronic "shift on the fly" 4x4. My previous trucks all had the shifter on the floor. Any causes or concerns with the electronic shifting? Reliability, durability?

Thumbs up

I don't do any SERIOUS off roading, (a few fire trails here and there) but I have not had ANY problems with the electronic shift. I've got a 97 XLT SCREW with ORP and it's been good for me.

Welcome to F150 online

35,000 miles on an '02 F150 and nearly 100,000 on a '98 Expedition with Electric shift, and no problems yet.

And it sure is nice when you hit an unexpected patch of ice or slush to be able to just reach down and flip a switch!

Don't forget to put the transmission in neutral before shifting to 4 Low and give it a few seconds to engage. (of course you can shift to 4 High from any gear)

no problems here. Did black bear and most of poughkippse in the shift on the fly. On the old expy (40k miles) something happened to a vacume hose that wouldn't allow the front to enguage, but was easily found and fixed with little effort and work's great for the people that have the truck now.
