Question Thunk from Rear

I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew. I notice that when I stop I get a thunk from the rear/drivetrain when the truck settles like it is slipping into slot or something. This always happens if I stop suddenly or quickly like at a light. It is not as noticeable if I slow down gradually. But even then sometimes when I let off the brake it may "thunk" slightly again like slipping into gear or something. I know I have the 3.55 diff in the truck. Any ideas what is happening or how I can have it corrected? I am going to the dealer for my 15,000 mile check next week. What should I ask them to look at?

Thanks
Ken

do a search...

of the message boards for "clunk", you will find lots of info. common situation, I don't think it is a serious mechanical problem, just an annoyance.

only thing that worked for me was a new transfer case...then the thunk was eliminated. however, my thunk was pretty bad...not just a slight sensation.

I hope it doesn't come to a complete replacement. That sounds timely. At least it is still under warranty for now so anything that has to be done will not cost me (directly). Not having my truck will definitely be an inconvenience though......
