Question what brand gear?

I am going to change the gear in my 97 F150 to a 4.10. Could someone from experience please tell me what is the best brand gear to buy. I think I will go with Ford gears but not sure. Also, has anyone heard of Yukon Gear from Randy's Ring and Pinion? Is it any good. Who has the best prices on ford gears? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I installed Randy's Yukon gears. The gears work fine but they are noisy at 45-50 and again above 65. It's not bad, just a little wine but you can hear it (mine are 430's).
I don't know if it is the gears or the installer. I had them checked by a Ford mechanic and he could not adjust out the noise. He also assured me it would not effect the life of the gears. Generally, I would recommend buying your gears from the installer. That way if they are noisy or if you have a problem they are responsible. I got the installer blaming the gears and the gears blaming the installer.

BTW, Ford 410's are only available from Ford Motorsports and they do not have a warrentee, even if installed by the dealer.

WLF- how much rpm are you turning at 70mph with the 4.30 gears? What kind of gas milage are you getting on the highway. Thanks

I'll check the RPMs tonight and let you know. I think it is about 2100 at 70mph.
I will recommend the 410's just because it is hard to get the speedometer calabrated on 97 and 98 trucks with the higher gears. That is because you have to change the speedo gear and they only come as high as 23 tooth. With the tires I am running (see signature) I am still running a little fast on the speedometer (about 3-4%). Also, the higher gears do make more noise.

I am a lead foot and seem to get about the same if not better milage since the gear change. That is "corrected milage".
People don't beleave that but I do not do much highway driving. 80% of my driving is between 30 and 55. I think this heavy truck just does better with the 4.6L if you have taller gears. The truck is also a LOT FASTER .
