Explorer Injectors
Hey Guys, Happy Holidays. Got an email from a friend in Iowa about their Explorer. I don't have alot of info about the Explorer itself, I think it is an early 90's model. A local garage there has told them that their fuel injectors are bad and need to be replaced. The machanic stated that the "Explorer" model is known for this problem.?. I did find out that they ocasionally have used the dreaded "BP" gas, but mostly it is Conoco. Does he mean that it is a Factory problem with the injectors or maybe because of the area(BP) that he encounters more Explorers that need to be replaced? I even question whether they need to be "replaced", maybe just the fuel rail line hook up of some stout cleaner? I know with my truck, there are several other area's(cheaper) to check for the same symptoms. Any comments? Thanks in advance!

My wife has a 97 Exploder....er.... I mean Explorer!!
We had a problem with our injectors a few months ago. I took it to the dealer and they told me that the injectors needed replaced!! The price quote was outrageous, so I took it to good ole Jiffy Lube and had them do the fuel injector clean, where they hook up a can of 'STUFF" to the rail and blow out the system. The truck smoked for about 10 minutes while running, to tell you the truth I thought it hurt the truck more than it helped, because of the smoke. But after the treatment, no problems at all!! Better to spend $59.99 on that than the $400.00 Ford wanted. Just a recommendation. Its worth a shot, it wont hurt anything!!! Wish your friend the best of luck, and let me know how it turns out!

First thing I would do is put a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner in the next two fill ups and see if that does it. If not his MAS(mass air flo sensor) or idle control sensor may be dirty and those can be easily cleaned with Throttle body cleaner... throttle body is another posbility.
ahhhh, too late! They emailed and said that the garage "supposedly" installed new injectors, and the Explorer is running fine now. I did find out it was a 99' model. I just bet that they only cleaned them. I wonder how many other " replacements" were did vs an actual cleaning? Most people wouldn't know and I don't know how mechanically inclined my friend is to check. Oh well.....Thanks for the replies.
