3rd gen Econoline - Windshield question
3rd gen Econoline - Windshield question
Hey guys,
I know this is not an F-series truck, but somewhat close, so I just give it a try. I am about to buy a 75 Ford Econoline Club Wagon (first year of the 3rd generation Econoline). The problem is that the van has a broken windshield and I am not able to find a seal for that. And I am not sure, if Ford already glued windshields on these vans, I know the pickup trucks in the 70s had windshield gaskets to fit the windshield, no glue. But I cannot believe that there are no seals available for a mass production vehicle like the Econoline.
So does anybody know for sure how the windshield on those vans (75-89) was installed?
And in case this has a seal/gasket, can you give a hint, where I could buy that? Because I do not think you can re-use the old one after 45 years.
Thanks in advance for your help. If questions on E-series are not welcome here, also let me know, I do not want to upset anybody.

Have you called an automotive glass repair shop? They might have some suggestions or someone that's old school and remember working on that model E series.
I do notice you are from Germany, so it might be a little more difficult.
This is where I'd go first, since they deal with glass all day long.

Thanks for your thoughts. I did call a glass repair shop that works with my american car garage here in Germany. But he could only find the 1st and 2nd generation Econoline in his database. He said there are no additional parts listed for an Econoline after MY 75. So this may mean that it is glued, but that is just a guess. The guy from the garage said that many models already had glued windshields in the 70s, but considering that the E-Series is somewhat technically close to the F-series it would again hint towards a seal/gasket installation, because that is what the F-series had at that time. I mean I am kind of hoping that it is glued, since I really think there would be a seal available for such a common vehicle, if it had one, but it would be great to know for sure before buying a van with a broken windshield.
So I hope there is somebody on here who knows for sure how the windshield is installed on 75-91 E-series vans.
