Engine guidance

I own a 1977 F100 with a 400bb. 2wd. Short box. The truck itself is solid all trim intact paint is in great condition. The motor is no power house by any means. I have the option to purchase a 1972 460 Bb with dove heads. My question is would this be a good motor to build or should I stick wish a short block? I would like the truck to have more power but still want to be able to pull up to the pump. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks

From: missing Texas...
depends on what your goals and budget is...

neither motor is super friendly on fuel BUT the 385 series is a much much better base for a performance motor...

IF it were my truck and my build this is what I would do:

385 series block
514 stroker rotating assembly
aluminum cobra jet heads w/ roller rockers
cmashaft
Weiand stealth intake manifold
Holley or Edelbrock 750 carb (vacuum opened secondaries)
one inch carb spacer
long tube headers
hei ignition setup
driver mod
