Personally I think ford should have kept the p71 crown vic. They were notoriously tough, Full sized body on frame, inexpensive to build, Rear drive, reliable engines (minus the intake problem, later cured), more room than the magnum/ charger or the impala.
Now that there done with the platform law enforcement is now forced to pay more across the board. Initial cost, maintenance, etc. on unproven platforms. The next police pkg impala will be a rebaged holden four door sedan( remember the pontiac g8), of course the mag and charger continue, and I have seen in publication that ford was fielding the new taurus. And now it looks as if there throwing the edge in the mix. Both front wheel drive. Obviously ford engineers have never watched an episode of COPS. these cars get beat up, and I don't think fwd will handle it well. As I mentioned, even the impala is going back to rear drive.
I can see the price tags easily in the 35-40k range for these new police packaged vehicles. putting strain on public safety budgets. Oh well I guess. After decades of proven..... Well..... Everything, I guess its time for change. Now ford will just have to spend the next thirty years proving themselves just to quit and start over again.
