Post STX info

I've got an STX, that I bought used, and am curious if anyone has info concerning the STX compared to a '98 XLT S/C. Also, is there a code in the VIN to verify that it is an STX, and not an XLT that someone has put the sticker on the side?
It has a 4.6L auto, 3.55 open diff, and power everything.
Thanx in advance.

All the STX is the sports package it was an option on the XLT and XL modles you got the 17 inch rims and the STX sticker and color keyed bumbers and on the XLT you got the 4x4 grill on the 4x2 and I think thats about it. So if your truck has any of them you got an STX packaged truck.

2000 F150 XLT Reg. cab
4.6 Triton Engine
4x2 3.55 rear end gear
sliding rear window
automatic keyless entry
white styleside short box

What years did they make the STX, and what did the package include?

98 was the first year for the STX to my knowledge, then in 99 they came out with what is now the Sport model.

Both include monochromatic mirrors and bumpers, XLT's got the 17's and XL's got the 16" rims.
Sports had different specific cloth seats, while STX's had the usual type for that trim level and year.

An XLT Sport/STX with skid plates was the same as and ORP truck, as they came with HD Shocks on the 4x4.

Hope this helps,

Bambino

No, 1997 was the first year for STX. I have one. I have never seen an STX that was not an XLT. I like mine a lot. It looks sporty and I especially like the 17 inch wheels. I could do without the big STX stickers, though.

Kenster,
Did you buy your STX new? I too had heard that the STX was only offered for '98, but they could have been wrong, as a sort of "anniversary" edition.

Bambino,
The cloth on my seats is different then other 97's and 98's I have seen.

Mine's definitely a 1997. I think it was a July build so they were probably gearing up for the '98s. I don't know if the STX was offered throughout the whole model year. I bought mine used about 20 months ago.

As a lot of people say, "you learn something new every day". It's a '97, mine was built June '98 and it's not a 99. I wasn't trying to imply otherwise.
