Thumbs up performance

Recently purchased a 98' STX , the only draw back is the lack of performance. How much will a k&n fitler charger and low drag pullys help? Or is there any other way to solve this problem that is reasonably priced.

Cool

Welcome Big ED!!- The K&N filter alone is only good for a few HP. Probably the best HP per $ in this order would be: Superchip, FIPK, cat-back, pullies, gears. My opinion only. There are a million posts you can search on each of these products.

Welcome Ed. Alot depends on the amount of cash you have on hand. An engine is just a big air pump. Sucks it in one end and forces it out the other. A K&N FIPK, headers and catback exhaust will allow more air in and more air out. A chip or program will allow for better use of this extra air while it's in the engine. Dropping the engine temperature 15 degrees or so will ensure more O2 and longer engine life. If you're like me, with a family, kid in college, house payment and bills up the yazoo, I had to piece mine together one step at a time. I started with a K&N FIPK and a 180 degree thermostat (I used a JET but found out later the 180 degree thermostat out of the Lincoln 4.6 fits right in at half the price). Then I went with a Catback Exhaust system to let the air out. Next I went with a Hypertech Programmer III instead of a chip (I'd used a chip in my 91 300Z and a module in my 95 Vette and liked the convenience and ease of just programming it). My next addition will be JBA SS headers. I had planned on trading for a Lightening when the Daughter gets out of college, but since this truck is my toy and only gets about 3000 miles a year on it, I may supercharge it. Be like having a Lightening without the monthly truck payment.
Enjoy your truck, you made a good choice.
