I should have known better...
My 96 explorer was recalled by Ford for the crusie control . ( fire issues )
| also had a problem with the spring in the drivers sealt belt latch, seat belt would not latch.
I removed a used seat belt latch and bracket from a wrecked Explorer by removing the drivers seat, thiers a allen type bit that I did not have to remove one bolt from from the floor.
I cheated by removing the seat belt track and un bolting the seat belt bracket from the frame of the seat.
Due to the cruse control recall recall and not having the proper bit, I thought a ford dealer could take out the drivers seat and install the used seat belt latch.
Maclin ford in Calgary broke a seat bolt in my explorer and had to drill out the old bolt.... I removed a seat in wrecked explorer with a 12 mil socket and WD 40; I sprayed the threads from under the truck and removed the bolts with breaking a singel one.
Num nuts at Maclin used a air gun... You would think that on a 13 year old truck that the bolts would be rusty and using a air ratchet would break the bolt heads..
Now, the seat and and selt belt are safe, shop rate was 135.00 a hour + 16 bucks for a new seat bolt.
Now My gas struts in the hood are broke ( don't know if the you have to remove the hood for the cruse control recall ) prior to Maclin, hood worked fine.
I could not get details on the repair of the cruse control from the service rep, all I know is thiers a potential for a short that heats up the break fluid.
Bottom line, aviod non recall repairs and to fix it your self.
