crownvivc question..

Cop cars..

Do the 4.6 have plastic intake manifolds and are the manifolds prone to cracking? Looking at picking up a Retired 04 RCMP interceptor, not a lot of ***** on the top end, but pretty quick up to 60 mph.

Othier wise the car runs good and its cheap ( price ) some of my Ford people say the manifold could be cracked, reason for no highway get up and go...

Engine runs good at idle, no smoke, trans shifts fine.

My mom's crown vic was recalled for a crack plastic intake IIRC. Something to check TSBs and recalls for. Not sure of the dates and such but here was replaced at around 110k on her 2000.

That crack won't affect the engine's performance directly. I just sprays coolant onto the back of the alternator & causes the engine to overheat &/or misfire (coolant in the plug wells). But it only takes a second to pop the hood & look for the revised aluminum crossover, which most of them got.
