Mustang 3v4.6

I'm thinking of buying a new Mustang GT, but I had poor luck with the 5.43v in a 04 F-150, is the 3v version of the 4.6 the same engine that is in the Explorer, ( last one I drove was quick ) and when Did Ford phase out the 2v per cy 4.6. ?

Who makes the standard trans in the mustang, is this ford buit, mazda, borg/warner, ect.

I have allways liked the 4.6, but due to my experiances with the 5.43v, I reaslly prefer to stick with a 2v per cy version of the 4.6.

I really like the handeling and ride of the GT, Performance is ok, not near as quick as I would have thought, but I was impresssed enough to consider buying a 07/08 GT

They still make the 2v 4.6, that's what you get in the f-150, crown vic, E series vans.
I believe the manual trans in the new stangs is a Tremec 3650.
The heads are identical between the 4.6 3v in the stangs, the v-8 expolders and sport tracs, and the 5.4 3v in the 150's, along with the camshafts, cam phasers and spark plugs. So all the plug and cam phaser problems on the 150's are going to plague the stangs also.

If you plan on aftermarket cams, look into the manually adjustable cam gears for 3v heads from boss 330 racing to replace the stock cam phasers. They tend to break when stiffer spring are installed.

the 3v 4.6 puts out almost identical power numbers to the 3v 5.4

I have no complaints, issues with the 4.6 2 v engine, I can't aford the 5.4 32v version in the Shelby gt 500, the 300 h/p 4.6 3v I drove was quick, I'm not looking for a high end racer, can't aford it.

Considering it's the dead of winter, new mustang's are dirt cheap and the blue oval is drawing me back, my daily driver is my 2500 ram, the mustang will be a summer car, apples to oranges...

I'm going to try to find a used 2v 4.6, but I don't know what years thier in the new mustang body style.

My moms 94 cougar with the 4.6 is really quick ( highway car )

My attempts to add a 5.0 from a t-bird into a 5sp sc cougar, did not work out, gave up the project.

96-04 had the 4.6 2v. The later years had more horsepower than the 96-97's with the non P.I. heads. I believe the 96-97's were 215 hp, the PI heads upped it to 230 or 240 and the final years (03-04) were 260 hp.

The 5-speed is a Tremec unit -- built in France, if I'm not mistaken???

I have not heard Mustang guys complain about the head-related issues you hear around here on the 5.4. Not sure why.....???

I have both engines in my garage (5.4 in the '05 F-150 & 4.6 in the '08 Mustang) so I should be having all sorts of problems.....

By the way, I love the Mustang -- an awesome car!
