Question Supercrew to Explorer or Sport-trac

Hey guys I'm going to be trading in my 03 supercrew for an explorer or a sport-trac. I was just wondering if there were any issuses with these vehicles. If anybody has any words of wisdom that'd be great. Thanks in advance for all the help.

My wife has a 2001 Sport Trac and the only issue I have is room. I am a pretty good size fellow at 6'2" and about 245 lbs. Leg room is not abundant in these things. As far as the durability and fuel mileage I really can't complain. My wife is about the worst thing that can happen to a vehicle. She could rag out an M1A1 tank. The Sport Trac has held up to her neverending floggings and never even broke a sweat. Great little vehicle, but I'll take my Supercrew.

Glad I saw your post. I'm considering something similar

I have a choice of buying my company's 2005 F-150 Scab XLT for about $17-18K, or as an option I'm thinking of buying a 2007 Sport Trac.

I love the F-150 but don't quite need all that room. I don't want to go much smaller though, which is why I think the Sport Trac would be just right.

I drive a fair amount so the F-150 would have nearly 100K in a couple years, then I'd be looking to replace it... if I go with something new (the S.T.) it'd be 2-3 years before it would have the miles on it that the '150 does.

Going to sit in one Friday at the car show...

Did you get yours?

Gas mileage isn't much better if at all with the 4.0 or 5.0/4.6, if you go for the 3.0 it's a bit of a turd. The Auto 4x4 doesn't always work like it should, the ABS brakes only come on in the ice or snow or mud, I don't really like ABS especially in those situations. Check the front axle bearings. Other than that the Explorer is a nice rig. My mom's had 2 2000 4.0 models so I've driven them quite a few times. The 4.0 definitely has some *****, especially the newer ones.

If you don't really like ABS in THOSE situations, when DO you like it?

My buddy has an '05 Sportrac. It's ok. That's it. OK. Not very comfortable, not quick, can't haul much. Not quiet. It's just ok. Mileage is better than a full size.

I pickup my 07 Explorer tomorrow. I've got it fully loaded with leather seats and I really liked the way it drives when I test drove one. I had an 04 F-150 that caught fire about 3 weeks ago. My insurance took care of me so I decided to go with something a little smaller in size and price and hopefully the 4.0L V6 gets a little better gas mileage than my F-150 did.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Just an FYI, you can not get the 3.0 V6 in any of the Explorer models, including the Sport Track. That engine is exclusive to the Ranger.

I picked up my 07 Explorer XLT yesterday and I truly love the way this SUV drives. It's very quiet inside and the leather seats are so comfortable. The 4.0L V6 has a lot better pickup than I thought it would. Granted I can tell a difference between my old 5.4L V8 and this but nothing that's so bad that I can't get used to. Also the interior is well engineered. I have the 3rd seat option and I like the way they designed it. It's a little tough getting out from the 3rd seat but nothing kids can't get used to or handle. You wouldn't want to be a large person sitting back there though.

Except for a couple of minor things, I love the new Explorer. Hope you find something you like.

How are you enjoying it now?

I will be buying one probably at mid-June.

Curious how much you paid, I am hoping to pay about MSRP less the $2000 rebates...
