MPG in a 4.0 Ranger

Hey Guys

Looking for some feedback. I'm considering dumping my 03 F150 and going to a Ranger. Hoping to pick up a few mpg and wondered what do you 4.0 V6 folks get on the highway. Please mention if your running an auto or stick.

Thanks in advance

This probably isnt even worth mentioning but....
My old 91 explorer with the 4.0 5 speed averaged 19mpg bone stock.

Expect a range from 16-19 MPG. ie probably not much change from the superduty. Oh, and the 3.0 gets the same, if not worse mileage.

I had a brand new 4.0 97 Ranger 4x4 auto and a 99 Explorer 4x4 auto and never could get 19 mpg on the highway out of them. With easy pedal I avg about 17 on either one. For me and IMO my f150 is not much different than the Explorer or Ranger plus I have alot more truck and engine.

I just had the conversation with a buddy this weekend. He has a 03 Ranger SC 4.0L auto, FX4, he said that he gets 15-16 mpg driving to work and back which is about 50 miles round trip all highway.

I get 14-15 mpg with my 04 F150 (see sig) doing about 60% of my driving in the city and also pulling trailers a couple of times during each tank of gas.

So personally I would either keep your F150 or get a newer body style F150. Just my $0.02

Paul

I figured if there was enough of a difference I'd get a Ranger. Based on the feedback here. It's not worth jumping into the smaller truck. Probably not going to keep my 03 but not sure what the next vehicle will be. Thinking a Honda S2000 roadster would make a fun daily driver, then pick up a beater plow truck for the snowy days....

My 2003 FX4 lvl2 Ranger got right around 17mpg at best. (4.0 V6)

Now it was an Automatic. I would venture to say that a straightshift might could get 20mpg, in the right driving conditions... maybe.

If you're buying the Ranger to save gas, you're wasting your time. My new F-150 gets right around 18mpg all the time. I buy less gas with it, than I did with the Ranger. I know it doesn't make sence, I am still confused about it myself, but it's been true in my situation. =/

Good luck!

06 Ranger 4x2 X cab with 4.0 and the auto. I get between 19 and almost 21 depending on conditions. Previous Rangers that I have had were 4x4's and got between 16-18 mpg. I like Rangers and prefer them over full size trucks.

I just switched from a 94 Ranger to an 04 F150, the different isn't enough to worry about really, maybe 1-2mpg in my case.
