Exploder lock problem

My brother has an 02 or 03 Exploder and every once in a while his door locks go nuts. They will flip on and off a couple times and then go back to normal. Any ideas?

same thing with us, although it happened on The Ford Windstars we had. The locks would go flip up and down like a ghost was inside messing around with the locks. Then all of a sudden stop. Took it in once while it was under warranty, and dealership told us they can't duplicate the problem. (it only did this about once every 2 weeks or so, for about 5 years till we traded it in) Never found out what caused it.

I wish I could help ya figure it out, but not even a dealership helped us figure out what was doing it. I know of 3 other ford's that are also doing this same problem. Don't really know why though.

You're going to have to be patient with me on this, but follow it through to the end and I have an idea for you.

It is obviously some kind of power supply problem related to the body control module. The BCM gets it's power directly from the battery.

I would check two things regarding the battery: first, I would check battery connections, especially the positive cable, for corrosion. Take it all the way off, scrub it down good with a water/baking soda solution, and rinse clean, letting it dry completely before reattaching.

While that's going on, take the battery to a parts store, shop, or Sears/National Tire/someplace that sells lots of batteries, and have them load test it. It may be storing starting power just fine, but under load may be crapping out.

Lots of the GM products with side terminal batteries show the symptoms you describe, because the side post batteries are a lot harder to keep clean and had have hidden loose posts.

My best guess is ground wires.

Lemme give you an example. At the Mercedes plant that I work at, we had an R-Class that had similar issues, but it was with the power liftgate. After several hours of disassembly, it turned out to be a ground wire. Now, the ground wire was connected to the stud, but it was flipped over backwards, so it wasn't making a good connection sometimes. Other times though, it would and there she would go.

On the ground wire connections there should be some blue check marks. That indicates the ground wire is right side up, so if you see those marks, make sure that they are facing you.

Anyways, I hope this helps.
