repairs 91 T bird...

I drove a 91 T-bird with the 5.0 automatic, body is in excellant shape, brakes, engine trans excellant shape. Rack and pinion ( stearing ) leakes, front strut's are toasted and the inner/outer tie rods are in poor shape, car could make right turns all by it's self, Front struts for the hood are gone, power stearing pump is allway's labouring, my question is, what is a rough estimate to fix all this, car is $2000.00 cdn and I suspect I would have to double that to fix it right....Front stearing repairs are out of my scope..

Does not seem like it needs that much work. Does it have 5.0 or the 4.6. I would go for a model with the 4.6 and stay the heck away from the 3.8 at anycost. If the car is pretty mint I would go for it but if its in fair condition look elsewhere.

I would say you would be pushing towards $1,000 or better to do all that. The steering rack is probably $300, about $50 each for the tie rod ends, $250 for the pump and about $50 each for the hood struts. Assuming labor at about $75 hour X 3-4 hours adds another $225-$300 plus tax puts it in the $1000-$1200 range.

Why say that? The 3.8 is the greatest V6 I've ever driven. I have one it my 84 Tbird, and I've driven the newer Tbirds and Mustangs and enjoyed it as well. I get about 20mpg average, and have 200lbs of torque, and thats with my CFI motor, the EFI 3.8s are even better on the mpg while having more parts available for upgrades....

I'm not saying it's better than the 5.0 and the 4.6, just that it isn't a bad motor by anymeans

We're actually putting a 3.8 into a '91 Probe right now, we're grown fond of that torquey beast...
