67 F-600 brakes

I know this technically isn't an F-150 question, but I'm hoping someone out there can help me out with a different Ford problem. My Father-in-law-to-be has a 1967 F600 dumpbody that he's trying to pseudo-restore. He uses it for a farmtruck so it isn't a showtruck, but all the systems need to work. Currently, he's looking for new brake drums (front & rear) for it. The brakes are totally rebuilt but the drums are really scored and grooved.

All contacts to date seem to be in the astronomical price range with the excuse that the drums are no longer made and he would have to pay for the mold AND the first set of drums from it. The prices he was quoted were $2000 for the front drums and $3500 for the rear drums. OUCH!!

If anyone has any contacts or any leads on a new/reconditioned set of drums or can provide any additional information at all, I would be very grateful.

Thanks for listening.....

I'd suspect that you could adapt newer brake assemblies onto the axle. Perhaps even disc brakes (for the front).
Lots of Ford dump trucks from the 70's and 80's still running around. Unless Ford completely changed the axles in 1968, you should be able to hook something up. Or else just swap out for newer axles.

Thanks! I know he's looking for the lowest cost and also trying just to make it work. He's already rebuilt the whole brake assemblies with brand new stuff, so he's knee-deep in money spent already. The price of the new drums is just outrageous and has us all stumped. It may actually be cheaper to retrofit later brake assemblies to the axles. We'll have to investigate that. Thanks again!

Thanks Adrian! We've met before over my F-150. Nice to hear from you. I'll have to browse that site. On first inspection, it looks interesting. I just need to get some time to spend on it! Same-old same-old. Too much going on, and not enough going on my truck! Thanks again!
