Ford RAID Car

Hello

I'm Andrés from Ecuador, me and my friend have a 92 Bronco that we use in off road racing (i'll post some pics soon), it's a good on except in narrow places, we kinda have local Ford spoonsorship, and we are planning getting into RAIDS (it's smoehow like Baja mixed with Rally), we have planned to get in to 2007 Rally Dos Sertoes, There are lots of monteros, and nissan pickups there.

We had planned to go in the Bronco, but it wont pass regulations, we need a car with maximum 4.5liters NA, the rest is up to us.

Most of those race cars have fully independent suspension, the monteros especially have double wishbone suspension on 4 corners, most have just under 300hp and manual transmissions.

What current Ford car would you pick for such a race, we were offered two damaged V6 Explorer XLs, at a bargain price, 2004 both, one has a broken tranny, and the other one had an accident, body damage is minor and doesnt really matter, but the front left suspension is wrecked.

Do you think it could make a good RAID car, the engine is good, but it makes only 200hp, it would need major work, i think getting more power would not be that hard, but it nees to be reliable and it has to be NA, the good thing is that both cars are manual 4wd, also, I don't know how strong is the suspension, in the Bronco all we needed is better (racing) shocks at the front, added a leaf (or soething alike), and it has tolerated major mistreatment. I'm not so sure about the explorer though.

Any coments are welcome.

The 4.0 in the exploders is a real strong engine and the 5 spd will make the whole rig strong and reliable. Suspesion you will want to beef up some and defiantly add warn maual hubs. (Stuck hubs suck and barely get you out of a ditch) Strip the interior and add normal safty gear and it should be ready to run. Of coarse with any of them perfromance in comaparison to competition is based on how much you beef it up compared to how much the competition beefs thiers up.

For more info on Exploders go here.

What about lifting it a bit, i don't know how, for the Broncos i've seen several kits, all i want is maybe 4 more inches, stock clearance is too low, I know i have to beef it up a lot, there are several jumps and stuff alike there, so the suspension must be able to hold it. I'll look for more

You can get anything you want for the Explorer too. Lift kits, superchargers, turbo's, anything. There are lots of companies that specialize in after market explorer parts.

There are some specials in between stages that would require 4WD
