2005 Escape
2005 Escape
A man came through the drive through of my work in a brand new (assuming) 05 red Escape. It looked really sharp! Had whiteface guages, leather interior, and the shine it had on the outside was NICE! It needed a bath though as the rocker panels had mud overspray on them. Looks much better than their previous models Ford created.
Ford definitely hit a home run with the Escape. While it has had its share of issues, they seem to have hammered out most all of them at this point...
If you like the Escape... check out it's Mercury brother, the Mariner. It's VERY classy!
Standard with brushed steel accents and such... we just about bought a white one for my wife. Drop the V6 in it and it's VERY VERY peppy...

Those new 05 Ford Escapes are great looking! My mother just last week brought herself a new 05 Escape Hybrid 4wd after her 96 Windstar bit the dust (man, that was hard to find in the dealer) The ride is great in it and being that it's a hybrid puts it into a hole new ball park! Ford did a great job on the new Escapes! I would highly recomend anyone looking for a smaller SUV to check out the new Escape hybrid!
I have to say, we almost bought one for my wife (until we decided to go with a single vehicle household as we commute together)
I think it's the nicest overall package in the segment (RAV, CRV, Liberty, Equinox, X-Trail, etc)

You obviously didn't look enough - did you check out the '05 Kia Sorento EX -L ?
Thousands less than those others: true body-on-frame, like a real truck; real offroad capability; the best Torque-On-Demand AWD system; best looking; quietest/classiest interior; more interior room; most standard features; best waranty; etc, etc.
Before making statements - do the research. Go see and then decide.
The Escape has always been a cheap, tinny, noisey POS 4X4 SUV wannabe.
People don't buy SUV's for mileage. Wait until the brain-dead hybrid drivetrain breaks down out of warranty and see how much it'll cost to fix, if they even know how....
cheers

(BTW...those Ford escapes ride really good and are NOT noisy at all!) you never test drove the new ones have u?
The battery for the Hybrid is warrentied for 10 years or 150K miles, but the battery should out last the life of the car. If the battery does die after the warrenty, it will cost 3K for a new one and labor to put it in. Trust me, I did the research on this SUV and my mother drives the 05 Hybrid one so I know a lot more on how they ride and what they can do. I can't believe you mentioned a Kia over a Ford...I want what ever your smokin
It's you who are smokin!
Hi.
Actually your claim about best-sellers is akin to "sh*t must taste good - 10,000 flies can't be wrong".
You need to get past the stigma of brand-name marketing; the planet is already brand name and celebrity-obsessed. It's truly ridiculous and somewhat sad.
Focus on the facts, forget the brand name and actually do the research. For example, engine management, sensors and ABS are all provided by Bosch on the Sorento. Build quality is high. Components are all overbuilt. It is a far better SUV than the Escape POS.
And yes, I did drive an '05 Escape - it is still tinny , noisy and cheap compared to the Sorento. I suspect that you did NOT test drive a Sorento. Go and do a side-by-side test drive.
I also have 2 Fords; an F-150 and a Cobra, so I am not brand bigoted as you seem to be.
I buy things based upon research and fulfilling a need - I do not put a lot of credence in what everybody else is buying; most people who buy Escapes or the other 'cute-ute' SUV wannabes do so based soley upon looks. What crap.
I was referring to the motor, not the battery - batteries don't have moving parts - and the complex control system that manages the drivetraoin. Pity the person who needs service - most factory techs are already overwhelmed by current systems - as the posts in this forum prove.
You probably also like Flowmasters too, huh?
Grow up.

You sound like the Rental Car agencies I frequent.
By your 'mid-size' definition, Ford doesn't make a 'small' suv.
mid-size = Escape
Full-size = Explorer
Extra Large = Expedition
Gargantuan = Excursion
Is that correct?
It just doesn't seem right.
Looking at Fords' fleet, I can't help but call the Escape 'small-size'.
Small is a relative term based on what you have to compare.
There is nothing wrong with the word 'small'. It's not derogatory.
Why not just admit that the Escape is small?
If not 'small' then at least something more descriptive.
Excursion = Large
Expedition = Full-Size
Explorer = Mid-Size
Escape = Circus-Clown-Car
Your right. It is the smallest SUV Ford makes. I guess they advertize it as "Mid-size" though. I guess I just got used to saying that since everything I read about the Escapes says it's mid-size, and all the commercials I see everyday about it always say "best selling mid-size suv" I guess meaning not big, but yet not small. I was just commenting on that other guy saying he says Kias are better, which in no way shape or form right at all.

whoa! mr grumpy guy.
I stand by my statement!
No I did not drive the Kia because Kias are crap! End of story. Korea makes disposable vehicles. Go read a little deeper into that wonderful warranty they have and how many parts are NOT covered. I have friends with a Sportage and it is the biggest piece of crap since the Lada Niva.
And if you think the latest JD Powers results speak highly... think again. Some people have taken Hyundai to task for fudging repair numbers to get on the list (read: denied and deferred warranty claims) Go ahead. Its the internet. Do a search and see the wonderful things they do to manipulate JD Powers numbers.
Maybe you like the Kia... but if I wanted an SUV that looked like a station wagon I would go Highlander/Freestyle/Forester/Outback/Matrix/Vibe before I go Kia.
Sorento... bud, you're a joke. Now go back to your donuts and double-doubles

Thank you J-150!!
This guy was crazy thinking Kias are good..it's him thats smoking up lol Let him go buy a kia and watch the thing break down on him! Anyone would go with any brand name over a Kia, come on now!

no kidding.
I hope your Mom enjoys her new ride. Like I said in my original post, I think it's the nicest overall package. Nice interior. Roomy. Peppy V6. Quiet.
Heck, my boss just bought a 3 yo one with 50,000 on it (actually a Tribute but same diff). Not a squeak or rattle to be heard. Doors shut as nicely as if they were new.
I think your Mom will get a ton of mileage out of this one.
kias have the most things gone wrong per 1000 vehicles of any manufacturer. Hell the might even rival the yugo. glad you happy with your moms escape hybrid. I do electrical repair at the plant on the escapes, tributes, hybrids, soon to be mariners and mariner hybrids, and following that will prob be the mazda version of the hybrid
