Engine Swap
Hello, i got an Explorer 96 V6 OHV 4x4, with 106.000 miles, i also got an 04 F-150 SC, real nice truck.
The Explorer was my first car ever and i don't really wanna sell it, doesnt have any problem at all, but i have this rash on me, i want power from it, so i though a swap is the best thing to do.
I looked at the FRPP catalog and found the 302 as a reasonable choice but i need more info on what more would i need to get the job done (like: will that engine fit).
Also, is there a place were i can buy Lightning engines, would that fit, (i think i will) will i have to get another tranny, what can i do with the 4x4, etc. Any info you can give me helps, i just keep on dreaming on a 5.4 SCd Explorer ,melting the tires and going fast as hell......

The 96 came with a 302 option. Do some checking. I know the trans will have to be changed and also the transfer case if it is 4x4. You might get lucky and find a Mountaineer or Explorer with the 302 that was hit in the back and get everything.

I took a trip to local junkyards. Only one Explorer limited there (only those came with the 302), it was smashedd on the front, real bad. I found a couple 5.4 F-150s in respectable condition to get parts, all of them where rwd though and mine is 4x4, the 5.4 will fullfill my need for power i think, and if it doesnt i can get a supercharger i guess, but how hard would it be to fit the engine, also there is the problem with the 4x4 and the tranny, i hope somene can get me some info on who to talk or something.
