auto door locks
Does anyone know how to disable the auto door locks on a '97 f-150. One dealer said it couldn't be done on 97's. I stopped at another, who using the ignition pushed the lock botton 3 times closed, then three times open and the truck didn't automatically lock when put in gear for a couple of trips, then the auto locks started working again. I'd appreciate any help I can get on this.
Well I think there is something in the owners manual on this and how to disable it. As I read about it for my 2000 but I didn't mess with it because the auto lock doesn't bother me. I would think its the same way for a 97.
This was a post from a while back... Hope it helps.

Autolock/Relock
Note:
Manual transmission vehicles have this feature disabled at the factory.
All doors will automatically lock each time the vehicle is driven after the following steps are completed:
1) The ignition switch is in the RUN/ACC position and the autolock feature is enabled.
2) The shift control selector is passed into or through the REVERSE position.
3) All doors are closed when the driver releases the brake pedal (2455).
After the initial lock, all doors will automatically relock when any door is opened and then closed followed by the release of the brake pedal. However, the doors will not relock if the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
The door may not automatically lock if the vehicle is shifted quickly into gear after starting the engine (6007).
The enable/disable mode allows the autolock feature to be turned off and on. On manual transmission vehicles, when replacing the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module, the autolock feature must be turned off by using the enable/disable mode.
The enable/disable mode is entered when the following series of steps is performed:
1. Confirm that the perimeter alarm is disarmed.
2. Close all doors.
3. Confirm that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
Note:
Steps 4 through 8 must be performed within 30 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
5. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
6. Turn the ignition switch from RUN to OFF.
7. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
8. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
9. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn. This indicates that the RAP module is now in the enable/disable mode and ready to accept program changes.
10. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button one time to command the RAP module to toggle the autolock/relock feature ON or OFF.
11. Press the power door lock LOCK button once to enter the command.
12. Verify that the vehicle horn chirps one time to signal the RAP module confirmation of the command. There should only be one chirp indicating that the autolock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard, followed by a longer honk, the autolock/relock feature has just been enabled. Return to step 10.
13. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position to exit the enable/disable mode.
14. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn once to indicate that a feature has been changed.
The autolock and the appropriate alarm configuration are turned on at the factory on vehicles with automatic transmissions. Vehicles with manual transmissions have the autolock turned off at the factory. The RAP module returns to the prior setting any time battery power is interrupted.

Hello and Happy New Year to you all! Does anyone know how I can find out if I can get my doors to do the auto lock thing? I have the power windows/door locks, but no info on if the steps described above will help me. I do not have an "alarm" on my 2000 XLT S/C. Any help will be appreciated. I also do not have the "window sticker" as the dealer destroyed it.

Claudia,
Just do the above mentioned procedure. I have autolocks and windows but the autolock feature was turned off when I got my truck for whatever reason. I followed the above post and now my doors automatically lock when I take off.

Dear Jim, Thank you SO MUCH for your trouble in posting this fix. As I've mentioned several dealers said it couldn't be done, and the one in Stephenville, TX looked it up on a CD-ROM in the shop and tried for several minutes to fix it (stay unlocked), He did fix it for most of that day, before it began locking again. Well, your posted fix WORKED--I'm so grateful to you for helping me. One last question--if I ever elect to enable this feature again, do I follow this same proceedure--that is, for the most part, using the unlock button? Thank you again, and a very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year to you and all the others on F-150 online.
Dear hmustang, Thank you for your response. The 1st dealer thought it was in my book also, we both checked and it was not. Maybe they started printing it in the '98 and never ones.

gd, you're welcome -- but I can't take credit for this, I saw the above post on this board a while back and saved it in case I ever wanted to disable my autolocks.
As for switching back? I think that you can by re-doing the sequence changing "lock" for "unlock" and vice-versa.
Take care,
Jim
