Question Annoying Rattle in Dash

Have a 98 model that has developed an annoying rattle/squeak in the dash that seems to be coming from the center or passenger side. Was just wondering if anyone had a similar problem and could give me an idea as to where to start. Truck has been as tight as a drum so far accept for the sloppy shifting of the 5sp!

I too have developed a rattle that is very intermittent. It seems to be coming from behind the 12volt Power point/cigarette lighter area. It does it maybe once a week or so. I will probably fix it myself when I find it.

Same exact rattle on mine with just over 6000 miles. When I called to schedule service the guys seemed to already know what I was talking about.

99 XLT,
Could you let me know what they say about the rattle. It will be a while before I have time to get it in and it is driving me crazy. Seems to be worse on a cold morning. I sure would like to find it and fix the sucker. Thanks.

Try the air vents. They seem to have a generous bushing (pivot point). Lift them up tight. That will fix that problem, until they shake loose, again. No suggestions as to a permanent fix.

Just had my rattle fixed. It was comming from center of the dash. seemed like it was behind the radio. It was worse on cold mornings. It turned out to be a clip that held some wiring together. The clip had come off and dealer replaced it. They removed the insert in the top of the dash to get to it.

Are you referring to the radio surround as teh "panel in the top of the dash" or something else. It sounds just like what I have...worse on a cold morning. Thanks for the response.

Ford has posted a SSM on a dash rattle that I came across. (My truck had it) Open your hood, and look by the power brake booster. Just to the left of it you'll see a hose with a white connector on it. Follow it down behind the booster until you get to a clip that hooks into the firewall. That is where it rattles. You have to wrap it in foam so it don't rattle anymore.

Unhappy

I have a '99 F-150 Supercab I have had since July. I noticed almost from day one an annoying rattle/ticking type noise coming from the passenger-side dash. This noise seemes to be coming from the behind or near the center insert. I have wedged paper between the glass and the dash and have it stop for a while, but who wants paper sticking out of the dash? Any ideas on this one?
