Angry Anyone else have a mis aligned box (2002)?

I just put some mud flaps on my new 2002 F150 4X4. Well when I was done I saw the mud flap on the passenger side was well over the tire and the one on the drivers side did not cover the tire. I thought it was the mud flaps at first. But when you stand back and look at it the divers side tire sticks out from the box around 1/4 inch and the one on the passenger side is in about 1 inch.

Has anyone had this problem? Maybe you have not looked close and seen it... I know I didn't see it till I put the mud flaps on. I'm taking it in tomorrow so I'll post a follow up as to what happens. Just was looking for some input tonight from some of you.

I recently bought a 02 Lightning. I had the same problem, except I noticed mine at the cab and rear bumper seams. I took it to the dealer where I bought it and they fixed it for free! I don't know why it happens, but it does.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply SilverStreak02. I hope it is only the box and not the axel... bad thing is I just got a bedrug droped in it last week so that would have to come out to fix it. Hope the velcro holds up.

Yep, mine's shifted over too. The shop adjusted it some, but it's still ****ed to one side. I'll have them revisit it when I bring it in for service. I did observe one or two on the road that were misaligned. Pretty disappointing,

Well I took it in today and yep it is the box. He said it happens once in a while and not to worry. There are four bolts in the backend that give you a half an inch play to one side or the other. He has done around 6 or 7 trucks he said. Well I take it in next tuesday and I'll post back for the people who want to know how it turns out.

hogluvr, I hope I don't have to go in twice. I have a bedrug in it and I don't know how many times the velcro can take it.

Four bolts? I thought I saw six back there. Which four are used to do the alignment? If I can just nudge it over myself, I'm willing to give it a shot. Holding off on a bed liner because of this.

I'm not sure. When I take it in on Tuesday I'll see if I can talk to one of the guys doing the work and find out for you. It may be six, the guy that I talked to was an estimator I'm not sure if he does the work also. Like I said I'll look into it and post back after next Tuesday.

Greetings
When I bought 02 Screw a few months ago, I noticed that the bed was misaligned. You can tell by the gaps on both sides between the bed and the cab. The body shop had to loosen up the 6 bolts and shift the bed. I knew the body shop manager and was allowed to watch them shift the bed and them examin the gaps before they tighten the bolts up. The gaps are now approx 0.75 inches on both sides. It took 10mins. I did not have a liner, so it was easy access of them. Also check the rear bumper after they realign the bed. Mine was way off after the alignment.

hogluvr gsf1010 beat me to it His post is exactly what they did to mine. They loosened the six bolts and moved the box about a half-inch and then moved the bumper also. The tech said it took about a half-hour to get done.

Thanks guys. I assume the bumper adjustment is independent of the bed adjustment. You think I can move the bed myself? (I'm pretty handy with a wrench.)

A question for you:
So after getting your bed realigned, does the driver side rear tire still stick out more than the passenger side tire? after reading this post https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...412#post737412
about rear axle being misaligned, I took a look noticed that my driver side rear tire sticks out more so than the passenger side. Just wondering if you you have the same situation as well. Thanks.

No the tires are not sticking out on either side. The front always looked in line so they must have just shifted the back of the box. It's dam near dead on now... If you look at the trucks on the road none look perfect but mine seems about as good as it can get now, I’m happy with it.

I would let the dealership play with it because if you try it on your own (I’m sure you could do it) it would now be your mess to deal with. Give them one more shot or try a different Ford dealer. Maybe talk to the tech doing the work before hand and let him know of your concerns.

I thought it was the bed at first but I thought it looked straight to me. so I measured off the frame to the outside of tire and it was off by 3/4", it seems that there are alot more than a few to me.
