Can anyone tell my the trick to touching up scratches in the paint. While waxing my truck I noticed a few chips in the paint. Nothing major..... However, I did notice a few to the metal and a little rust.

I got the paint. A pretty good match. Removed the wax. Scraped the rust with the tip of a knife and used a nuetralizer. I dabbed on a few coats of paint.

Now what?? is there a way to make it even? Rubbing compound? How long do I wait? I don't want to damage the clear coat.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. To include specific procedures & products. Etc.....

I got a 'Very Fine' artists brush from a local art supply house. I have been able to fill in the scratches very well. A couple of deep ones required more than one application to bring it up to the same level as the base paint. Looks pretty good to me and helps protect it from rust.

I have used a toothpick before, but this works better for me.

I've read the toothpick method before. Tried it & it does work. It can take a bit of time to get the area built up, but it's a lot less leveling work in the end. I think the trick is to use as little as possible to fill the area, and not create a bump.

Fill the chip with Crazy Glue. Then do a layer of touch up paint. This helps to secure the edges of the chip and provides more "build" than paint alone which is also prone to shrinkage.
