Unhappy Silver Grill

Is it my imagination, or am I one of only 27 other people who's honeycomb grill is painted silver/gray? It only recently struck me when someone said I should paint the grill on my new hood scoops to match my grill. My grill is gray! It never bothered me before until I started looking at all you guys driving past me and all of you have black grills! What's up with that! I like black. My whole truck is black, except for my grill!

I'm thinking I should paint it. Are your grills flat black or glossy? I think it's time for a trip to Farm & Fleet. What's been your luck trying to get your grill out to paint it?

Thanks

Question

Iv been through that too. It all depends and the year of your ride.
If its a 99+ all you need to do is take the front clip off and unscrew the grille. But if its a 97/98 (like mine) you can try to tape and paint, or just cut it out and replace it w/ n aftermarket grille.

Ps. Lund makes a nice over lay grille as well!

Thanks JayDawg,

Mine's a 99 so I'll look for that clip. I've kind of putzed around for a while with it but didn't see anything. At least now, I know there's something to look for. I'll try this first. If I don't have any luck I'll look at Lund. I like the hood scoops I got from them.

Thanks again.

Larry, start out by removing your radiator cover then your corner marker lights, you'll find ten screws that hold your grille surround in.....remove them and also a couple of those plastic push locks near the ends of the fender then 2 clips in the center of the truck to the left and right behind the grill.......remove the surround and the grill and you will be able to remove the grill from the surround. It sounds like alot of work but in reality is only a 30 minite job to have it all out. Another way to go is a Street Scene Speed grille..they, I believe install over your original grill and you really can't see behind it. look them up on the web. I personally have a Precision Grille, the chrome started flaking, I called the company and they sent me a brand new one, no questions asked...

Hope this helps

Ed

Wow it does sound complicated. But I guess it can't be any worse than replacing some of those rear spark plugs.

I'll give it a shot. If I don't like the results after I paint, then I might go with your grill. That looks pretty sharp.

Does this give you a better idea?

(If someone could tell me how to just post a pic instead of a link I'd be very grateful.)

right click the image you want to use, click 'properties'. copy the url address.
click the IMG button in the vbCode section when you are typing your message, and paste the copied address in the box, and viola!

well, thats how you would do it, as long as you are able to see the pics instead of the links... is that a setting we control, or is it something that steve controls?

Thanks Silver Flare. Now why was that so hard for me?

That would be my grill. Is it silver enough? I mean gray? I mean...

Thanks too to Phillips. Yours is a much better picture. That's what I have, and I want black.
