Step bars? Recommendations?

Well.. I just got a F150 4x4 and my wife is early in pregnancy!!!

She has requested that I add step bars to my truck to make it easier for her to get into and out of the truck.

Are there any step bars you would recommend?
How hard are they to install?
What is the approximate price?

Thanks for the help!

I like my Westins - but it depends on what style you want. Lots of different brands out there, and any twenty people will probably give you almost that many "favorites". You can always browse the owner galleries to see what you like the looks of and go from there. Mine were $199 installed, so I can't tell you about the install (but it looked pretty painless! )

Thanks!

I'll check them out!

I guess any local body shop would do the installations if I didn't feel comfortable?

If you buy them locally from a truck accessory store, the selling shop will probably offer to install them for you (some for free, some at a cost - usually minimal). Depending on what kind you get, the install may be a little more involved. I think on mine, the brackets bolted up to prexisiting holes, and then the bars attached to the brackets.

When I installed mine it was pretty easy like JDMnAR said. They bolted right up to existing holes underneath. The shop wanted 60.00 or so to put them on, I did it in about 1/2 hr with my 7 yr old.
Most of the good shops will install them hopefully cheaper than mine was going to charge. They will help out the wife now, help the kids later(if you still own the truck) and add a little protection to the rocker panels.

JDMnAR:

I can't find the Westin's online for anything less than $330.

Its for a 1999 F150 4x4 Supercab.

Has the price gone up since you had yours installed or am I looking at the wrong thing??

I wouldn't think the price has gone up that much - mine were installed in late May or Early June of this year. Are you looking at black, chrome or stainless? That makes a difference in the pricing. Believe it or not, I actually found the cheapest price at a local shop that had them in stock.

Anyway, here are a couple of links I found after a search on google:

http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/s...inStepBars.asp

http://www.tpcarguy.com/IBS/SimpleCa...rchy/0201.html

http://ustruckaccessorieswhse.com/wes-nford-jac.html

(I haven't done business with any of these vendors, so can't give you any indication of their customer service or anything.)

Just do a search on "Westin step bars" and you will get tons of hits.

Ahhh...

You must have the black ones then.

I'm trying for the chrome or stainless (whichever is cheaper).

That must be why I can't find any for $200.

Side Bars

Got mine for $139.00 from VIP - discount auto, a store local to the Northeast. The bars carry the name of: Back Country and are powdercoated, no drilling required. about 1/2 hour to install for both sides. They have been on for 3 years now, and appearance holds up unbelievably well for the $$ I laid down.

Got my Westons (Black Powder Coat) at a local Lear Dealer. Cost was 165$ plus $25 to install. Love them, and they go great with the deep wedgewood blue paint.

In the interest of saving my wallet... I decided on the Wildcat Flash Chrome Nerf bars which at least one other person here says they own.

They look nice... and are the right price at $250 with free shipping.

I placed the order and am axiously awaiting their arrival in 2 to 3 weeks.

Oh well... I can't argue with the free shipping.... so I guess that is a good deal. I can wait a few weeks.
