Unhappy Any Body People tell me. . .

Ok went to install my daughters car seat, after I did I opened the hood just to look around. I noticed something unusual. Both hood posts were painted, crappily I might add. so I looked around, the beam behind the grill, was white now back with runs and over spray. The inside of the hood had fading and even areas that were missed slightly. Is this a Friday/Monday assembled truck, or have I been sold a scratch and dent truck!!!!

It's here in my gallery

Grease Marks

I had a hell of time getting the grease pin marks off my tires. 409 and steel wool did not get it completely off. Took over a month and a lot of car washes before all signs were gone. The marks on the wheels came right off though.

I do not remember my hood posts being painted. I will check and report back if they are.

grease isn't the issue

The paint seems REAL unusual to me, kind of irks me. I've read about people getting scratch and dent trucks in here that they thought were new. Not that I got ripped, so to speak, I did get A - plan. But it would be nice to DISCLOSE that it was replaced!!!!!! It is a "new" not "used" car.

Hood Paint

I bought my truck right off the delivery vehicle, still wrapped in it's protective plastic. My hood post were also painted (crappily). The fit and finish of the engine bay on every other newer generation F150 I've seen are the same way, so don't worry!

Givivg Ground.......

Not to worry.......My truck is white too and It looks EXACTLY like that.

Mine is real bad on the edges of the hood.Check there and see what hers looks like. Can't see it with the hood shut but it still bothers me.
It looks more like "white wash" than paint.

Later.........FRF

just about to blast the dealer

Got to work this morning and I was just about to call and blast the dealer for not telling me about the "accident" the truck had.
gpaje, FordRacingFan, thanks I feel a little better.

Still what happened to qaulity fit and finish. It looks like they painted evrything white, then said, the hood release and support need to be black. and hit with some krylon.

2 family members at ford (one engineers, one crashes vehicles, damn I want that job <bg>) they can't seem to explain it either other than "cutting costs".

BTW From what my brother says about the 04 F150, look for harder edges and a pretty "cool" design.
He crashed a couple allready

I know for a fact that they do body work and turn around and sell them as new. I took delivery of my King Ranch and came back the next day because I found a large irregularity in the driver's side rear door. I told them I did not want to have it put in the body shop because it was brand new. I wanted a perfect truck from the outset, not one that had paint work done on day 1. So they redid the paperwork and got me a new truck identical to my first one, but they sent that one to the bodyshop, fixed the paint, and put it back on the lot as new the next week. I checked out of curiosity when I came back for my permanent license plate. So buyer beware, because they are not obligated to tell you about those things.

Be all, end all

I went by a body shop at lunch. They told me that this has been pretty the "norm" lately. As a body shop they would never do such work. But the MFG can get a way with it. Oh well, saved myself some embarrassment with the dealer

Ive always been told its because they dont clear coat those areas, cutting down on the cost I guess. Inside the fuel door looks the same as under the hood, painted but dull looking. Just adding my 2 cents.

Thumbs down

I do believe the general underhood finish standards have gone down since about 98/99. They have stopped the use of decorative covers on ugly engine compartment areas, deleted the neg battery terminal covers, painting the hood bumpers, etc... My hood bumpers are the reg. plated finish with black rubber tops. It looks more professional I think.,,,,98

How long will it be until we lose the TB covers

Mine are the same way... they almost have to be... think about the assembly process... the body in white has already been pre-assembled with the hood, doors, etc long before it gets to the paint booths. The hood has to be in its proper position a-la the stops... if the truck assembly process is at all like the Mustang process, the exterior surfaces are painted by Behr heads on automated equipment (oscillating booms or robotic arms), and the inside edges of the door panels, under-hood areas, etc are painted by hand because the operator must open the hood, door, trunk, etc. to paint it. Maybe with the trucks, they go through the paint booth with everything open to eliminate people touching the unit? I dunno... My 2 cents.
