Unhappy Step bar beginning to rust-Fix?

My driver and passenger step bar is beginning to rust where the end cap attaches. What is the best way to repair? Do I need to remove the whole bar and sand/paint? What kind of paint?

Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same boat, although mine has been showing some rust for a while now.

Possibly, but not really in any hurry. Today I am going to try to change my tranny fluid on my own, so the bars aren't a priority.

My factory step bars are also rusted where the endcaps attach. I took the truck to the dealer and he is taking them off, sandblasting, and repainting them under warranty.

While it's there, they are also fixing the rust under all 4 doors and the tailgate under warranty. The truck only has 17,000 miles on it!

Thinking of warranty.... Don't these trucks have a 100,000 mile warranty? If so why wouldn't a factory installed peice be covered by it? If the radio breaks and you're in your 3/36, it's covered.

Anyone?
