Question Windshield Wiper Problem

I've got a 1999 F150 XLT and I've got an unusual problem with my windshield wipers. I'll be driving down the road and all of a sudden the windshield wipers will go on by themselves. They will stay on for one, two, or three strokes and then turn themselves off. There's no pattern to it. I can go a couple months and no problem, then all of a sudden it happens everyday for a couple weeks. It doesn't seem to matter what time of year it is either. Has anyone else seen or heard of something like this happening? Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

Welcome to the site!

There has been some threads in the message boards about this problem. One of them is below:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ghlight=wipers

If you do a search, there will probably be more, since this is a problem alot of people have had.

I have a 99 and i had it happen. It was the computer, which they figured out after taking apart and replacing all the pieces.

I guess there is a recall on it from what the thread above says.

Good luck with it.

Smile Phantom wiper

I have experienced the same problem. It first began the year after I puchased the truck; Ford replaced, I assume under warranty. Now recently, a year and a half later, the 'phantom' wiper has appeared again. It occurs exactly as you have described: only 2 or three wipes and no pattern. I am about to have it checked out again when I get my oil changed this weekend. If they say anything interesting I will let you know.
