Question Removing Body Molding

Hey guys........what is the best way to remove a body side molding. Like those plastic pieces that are meant to protect your doors from other idiots at the grocery store

I need to remove mine from my Ranger. My best idea so far is to use a hair dryer to heat up the 2-way adhesive tape.

Any suggestions are muchly appreciated.

3M offers a kit to do just that:

3M™ Side Molding and Emblem Removal Tool Kit 08977

However, in the Lab we just pry the molding up using a non-scratching wedge, and then pull it off the vehicle. You should see tape residue remain on both sides (the door and the molding). Then, all you'd need is the Stripe Off Weel:

3M™ Stripe Off Wheel 07498

Attach it to your drill and use the rotary action to remove the tape residue from the paint. IT WILL NOT HARM THE PAINT! Trust me.

If you have any questions, send me an e-mail:
