sideswiped fender flare
Gaaa! As you can see below, my 1999 F-150 straight-side was sideswiped (by my Dad's 2000 Ranger, of all things). This fender piece appears to be plastic, and it occurs to me it might be a simple thing to detach it and send it off for repainting, rather than replacing it. Any tips on removal, good places to send it to be painted, or good sources for replacement body parts if that's not feasible would be welcomed.
Fender Flare
I'd check with the dealer they come pre-painted. I replaced mine for $90. A body shop would probably charge more to repair / repaint yours.
Removing the old one is simple but the fasteners are intended for one use only and often break.

Post the prices please.
Bunabayashi,
Please post the prices you get for the flares. Two of mine have gotten scraped already. Somebody hit me at my Grandfathers funeral if you can believe that. The other one got it at work. We have a really good paint shop here in town so I'll call them too and see what they want to paint to flares.

They wanted $307 to paint my 2 flares that were scratched and that was with me taking them off and bringing them to them. Seemed awfully high to me if I can get painted ones from Ford for $90 a piece. Has anyone bought them from www.fordpartsonline.com? Do they come painted?

I have aftermarket flares on my truck, and I was charged $114 to paint all four! $307 for two is ridiculous, even with a little bodywork!!!!!! Did you laugh in his face when he quoted that?? In other words, repainting one factory flare would be less than the cost of a new one,,,,98

I mean these guys do great work but how long could it take to do 2 stock flares? They're not even torn up, the paint is just rubbed off them in couple spots. I sent an email to fordpartsonline to see what kind of prices they had.

All in all, starting from scratch, it takes about 45 minutes to get them painted, then I waited 20 minutes for the final coat. I used to work at a body.detailing shop, and I repainted more flares than anything else on F-150s, we charged I think $30 per flare to paint them, always match coated, and always turned out good for me. Wasn't too hard, didn't even remove them to repaint the affected area.

I've had good service from them, however it's a goor idea to get the part # from your local dealer to search with.
Good Luck guys!

bunabayashi, it's down here in the tip of Virginia, about 50 miles from the very tip! Quite a ways from Fairfax, but I don't know if it would be worth it, I don't do any work there anymore. I wouldn't trust the 'other' people there working on my vehicle, so I can't recommend them for anyone else's, either.
Point was, it isn't hardly any work to sand down that spot, mask the truck and spray on about 7 coats of paint and then a clearcoat, especially when you have colormatched paint, it's simple as far as auto painting goes. I can't believe some places are charging what they are to do that! It doesn't take a lot of work and it doesn't take a lot of paint, so I can't imagine someone jacking up the price that much! The hardest part is making sure that you get the paint on even, and if it isn't even, it isn't that big of an area, you can sand it down and start over. I think it usually took about a half a gallon of paint, and that was including the extra in case I messed up. Shame on whoever wants you to pay that much!
