Updating your rig!

I love my '98 to death, but i am jealous with some of the new features Ford had made to the '00s, '01s and '02s - so, has anybody here been successful at "updating" their truck? ie. heated/leather seats, overhead console, in-dash CD player, under-hood matting, etc. i wanna do a bunch of things to make it "newer" So, anything?

Hey, at least I have a real ash tray!!!

The only thing I really missed about my truck after driving a 2001 F-150 was the overhead console.

Most of my driving is done at night so having the compass and temp display made me feel more comforable. I bought an Explorer overhead console on eBay for $45.00 and then got the wiring harness, temp sensor, mounting bracket and new sunvisors at the dealer.

In all it was about $150.00 and a few hours of work. For me it was worth it.

A Light Prairie Tan steering wheel would be nice too. This wasn't available in '97.

I also installed OEM fender flares which were not an option available when I bought my truck.

I bought a dual media ford stereo (premium CD/Tape) and a leather-wrapped ford steering wheel, both from a 2002 F-250 superduty. They are nice upgrades that still have the factory feel. I also got a set of Rancho shocks that look like the new FX4 shocks. I bought all these items on ebay, and then turned around and sold the original stereo and wheel on ebay. My total cost was about $150.

For a while I was thinking of getting the FX4 rims and decals but my wife said it would look cheesy to make my truck look like something it is not. I decided to get a lift instead, lol.

The '98's have some nice features that are missing on the 99-newer trucks... For example, that little pocket in front of your right knee on the dash, the nice door pulls, etc. It seems like Ford tried to 'decontent' the newer trucks so they would be cheaper to manufacture.
