Question soft vs. hard lid?

I recently inherited a '01 scab 4x4 flareside from my best friend who sadly is no longer with us, but anyways...my question is how much weight can you put on a soft lid? i have to park outside at work and since i live in michigan it tends to snow. i have an ARE on my King Ranch an i love it, but i don't drive him in the salt. i don't want to spend that much money on this truck since it is just going to be my beater truck for work. so i guess my question is will a soft lid withstand the weight of the snow or do i really need to get a hard lid?

Coming from Minnesota...

Being that I live in Minnesota, I can say that a soft cover will stand up to the weight of the snow, I have an access roll-up cover on my 99, and absolutely love it. It has 4 cross bars on it, and they work great for handling the weight of the snow. I have had close to 16 inches on my cover at a time, and never had problems with it.
Just my expirences.

Mine withstands some harsh snow here in WV! Its made by Extang and has three rails going from side to side....When it snows it usually slides rite off!
